15 Injured as Delta Flight Crash Lands in Toronto

A Delta Air Lines flight arriving from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport crash-landed at Toronto Pearson Airport on Monday, February 17, flipping upside down and catching fire on the runway. Fortunately, there were no fatalities; however, 15 people were transported to nearby hospitals, including three individuals—one child and two adults—who sustained critical injuries. None of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that 80 passengers and crew members were on board, all of whom were successfully evacuated and accounted for.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Flight 4819, operated by Endeavor Air, was attempting to land in challenging winter weather, which included heavy snow, ice, and wind gusts of up to 40 mph. Blowing snow had reduced visibility to just 6 miles at the time of the incident.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has assumed responsibility for the investigation. Delta Air Lines acknowledged the crash and issued a statement confirming no fatalities, while urging the public to avoid speculation as the situation unfolds. The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA also emphasized that AFA crew were on board and urged caution while officials gather more information.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford expressed relief that there were no fatalities and reassured the public that provincial officials were in contact with the airport and local authorities to provide assistance.
This incident is yet another in an emerging—and highly troubling—trend of aviation accidents in early 2025, including a mid-air collision between an American Airlines flight and a Black Hawk helicopter, a fatal crash involving a medical jet in Philadelphia, and a commuter plane crash over the Bering Sea that claimed the lives of all 10 people aboard. While air travel continues to be statistically safer than many other forms of transportation, each of these incidents highlights the need for strict safety protocols to prevent future aviation accidents and losses of life.
