Two Killed, One Critically Injured in Port Arthur Boat Explosion

Two Louisiana men lost their lives and a third is in critical condition after a commercial work boat exploded in Port Arthur, Texas, on the morning of Wednesday, April 23, 2025. Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims, but the deceased have been identified as a 41-year-old man from Houma and a 45-year-old man from Abbeville, who served as the vessel's captain.

The explosion occurred around 7:30 a.m. at a boat ramp within the J.D. Murphree Wildlife Management Area. According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the vessel was engaged in a levee project at the time. Early reports suggest that the explosion happened shortly after the boat had been refueled and its engine was started. The incident is currently under investigation by the Port Arthur Fire Department, Port Arthur Police Department, Texas Game Wardens, and the U.S. Coast Guard.

All three victims were aboard the vessel when the blast occurred. A fourth worker, who had stepped away to retrieve an item from his truck, narrowly avoided injury.

Our deepest sympathies are with the families and loved ones affected by this tragic event. No one should have to endure such a profound and devastating loss.
