Worker Dies After Being Found Unresponsive at Nutrien Nitrogen Plant in St. Gabriel, LA

Emergency crews were dispatched to the Nutrien Nitrogen Plant in St. Gabriel, Louisiana, at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, after reports of an unresponsive male worker. Despite being rushed to the hospital in critical condition, he was later pronounced dead. Investigators say there is no suspicion of foul play, and his death does not appear to be related to a preexisting medical condition.
Law enforcement and company officials are working to determine what happened, and an official cause of death has not yet been released.
About the Nutrien Nitrogen Plant
The facility, located off LA 3115 in Iberville Parish, is part of Nutrien—a global company focused on the production and distribution of crop nutrients, including nitrogen-based products. Plants like this often operate high-temperature and high-pressure systems to produce ammonia and other chemicals essential for agriculture. While these processes are heavily regulated to ensure safety, any significant incident remains a concern for both workers and the surrounding community.
Continuing Investigation
Workers at Louisiana's many plants and refineries are at risk of suffering catastrophic injuries or losing their lives if safety procedures are not followed to the letter. Authorities, including the St. Gabriel Police Department and local emergency responders, are conducting an ongoing investigation to clarify the circumstances that led to this worker’s tragic death. In addition, Nutrien has reportedly initiated its own internal review, promising to cooperate fully with all inquiries.
Our thoughts go out to this worker’s loved ones, and we will be following the details of this incident as they are released.
