Case Description
Attorneys Jason Itkin and Cory Itkin won a $222 million verdict against piping repair and maintenance company Team Industrial Services, Inc. on behalf of a woman who lost her husband in an industrial accident. In 2018, our client’s husband was sent to check on a steam release on the 14th floor of the plant, but upon arriving, he was scalded with superheated steam that covered him with severe burns. He was airlifted to a local burn unit, but he succumbed to his injuries the next day. Upon our investigation, we uncovered that the accident was a direct result of Team Industrial’s negligence.
It was determined that the steam release was caused by a faulty valve that was inspected and modified by Team Industrial Services. There were records showing that the company knew the valve was faulty and that it would eventually fail. Still, Team Industrial denied responsibility all through the trial, until the jury handed down its decision.
“The jury’s verdict was loud and clear that human life matters, and that big companies cannot avoid responsibility for deadly workplace disasters,” Attorney Jason Itkin said in a statement.
Regardless of the defendant’s denial, the men and women of the jury saw the facts for what they were. As a result, they awarded our client $27 million for physical pain and $30 million for mental anguish suffered by our client’s husband prior to his death, $75 million for her loss of companionship, and $90 million for past and future suffering our client would have to face as a result of losing her husband.
It was an honor for our firm to ensure that justice was done for our client in her husband’s memory. Families like hers are why we became lawyers, and we’ll continue to fight for results like these for as long as companies continue to harm others with their negligence. No matter what.
